This is an experiment with sharing the storms that constantly blow through my mind. I want to see what will happen if they are set loose on the general public. Will others just close the windows and pull down the shades or will they allow them to blow through their safe areas. I expect some will unleash retaliatory hurricanes. I hope I can weather them. My intent is not to blow down peoples houses but maybe to expel some of the stale air that accumulates when too many people keep saying the same things over and over.

Who's on my side?

I was updating my profile on Facebook today. When I came to the box for political views, it stirred one of those storms I was talking about. There was a time when I would have quickly entered a certain party. After all, I've voted the same way for over thirty years. My choices have been set in stone due mainly to my religious convictions. Lately however, I have come to the conclusion that I am being used by my favorite political group. I believe that they have learned the hot buttons to push to get people like me to jump in any direction they want. Words such as abortion, choice, gay, family values, euthanasia, race, socialism, capitalism, global warming and others interjected into unrelated issues simply to manipulate us. Both sides use these tactics.

Most recently, the health care debate is a glaring example. It is obvious to everyone, except possibly the AMA, drug companies and insurance companies, that something needs to be done to control health care costs. There are people in the United States of America dying because they can't afford to get proper medical attention. If they can get help in time, it isn't available until their family finances have been decimated. This doesn't have be this way. I have a nephew in the Philippines who just had an eye operation that required 2 days of hospitalization. The cost was about $300. My wife was in the local emergency room for three hours,(mostly waiting), was told there was nothing wrong and sent home. the bill was over $2500.

Both sides are quick to say we need health care reform but neither honestly wants to make effective changes. The side in power tries to tie all kinds of unrelated items to it to benefit special interests and the other uses scare tactics to try to kill any effort. Each one is pushing the hot buttons of their preferred groups. The real motive on both side is power. One wants to stay in power and the other wants to take power. In the end neither is representing me.

If you look on my Facebook profile, you will see that the only political view I could finally come to is " POLITICIANS LIE."
